Gizmo 3D Printer Use Case: 3D Printed Heart Vase

Updated: Aug 6, 2020

We recently 3D printed the Heart Vase by maddinnmm that's featured on Thingiverse for promotional purposes surrounding Valentine's Day and International Women's Day. When 3D printing the Heart Vase, we are also able to demonstrate many of the resin 3D printer advantages offered by the Gizmo 3D Printers: 1. Super speed 3D printers

Using our high-speed resin 3D printer, we printed the vase in only 3 hours and 14 minutes. On one of the most popular SLA printers, it would have taken 8 hours 52 minutes to print it at half that size. We didn't use the fastest printing method possible with our printers which is called continuous printing. When printing on a Gizmo 3D Printer, you can adjust the printing speed throughout the print to obtain the result you want. We printed the first 10 layers at standard speed and the rest using what we call our hybrid continuous method. Stay tuned to read about the differences between these 3D printing methods.

2. Large build volumes

Some SLA printers are limited in size and wouldn't be able to print this vase at the scale we printed it which was 100mm x 113mm x 250mm plus supports. The item would have had to be made shorter down to 150mm to fit into one of the 3D printers advertised as being the best resin 3D printer in the market.

We printed it on a GiziPro - one of three in the range of Gizmo 3D Printers. The GiziPro we used to print the vase has a vat size of 200mm x 113mm x 260mm. Even bigger vat sizes are available to order with this printer or any of the other Gizmo 3D Printers. The build plates of Gizmo 3D Printers feature a removable plate which we removed easily for this printing job to gain another 10mm of printing height. The GiziPro is not the biggest resin 3D printer in the Gizmo 3D Printers range. If we wanted to print the vase at its full size, we could have printed it on a GiziMax Gizmo 3D printer.

3. Compatible with resin from many 3D printer resin manufacturers

We used Fun To Do standard blend resin which is available at the affordable price of USD 50 per litre. It's a great 3D printer resin for prototyping your creative ideas fast and cheaply on a Gizmo 3D printer.

We compared the cost of the resin we used to print the vase with that of another well-liked SLA 3D printer that is limited in size. Using their resin which is priced at USD 179 per bottle, it would cost USD 12 to print the vase at almost half its size which would consume 68ml of resin. Our larger print used 183.59ml resin at the cost of only USD 9.17. 4. Low failure rates, consistent results and remote repeatability

The vase printed right the first time which is always a bonus. If one were to manufacture these vases on a Gizmo 3D printer one after the other, you'd be able to expect consistent results. If it were being manufactured on more than one Gizmo 3D printer or essentially a Gizmo 3D printers farm, one could expect the same print result from any of the machines. Imagine having Gizmo 3D printers in different offices worldwide - one could achieve the same print result anywhere in the world simply by using the same print settings on every machine. 5. No replacement parts, PDMS or Teflon layers

At no point would the 3D printing of more vases be interrupted with having to replace parts at a cost. We just add more resin to the vat and the printer would be ready to print the next vase. Over time, having a 3D printer that requires no replacement parts is a considerable time and cost saver that often gets overlooked when buying a resin 3D printer. 6. Top down SLA printer

We compared how the vase would print on one of the most popular bottom-up SLA 3D printers, and it would require much more supports below, on the inside and outside of the vase. More supports mean more time spent on cleanup and more money spent on resin. If you're looking to invest in a resin 3D printer and value time as well as money, a Gizmo 3D top down 3D printer is a more cost-effective and efficient 3D printer. With the vase 3D print, for example, we only needed supports at the bottom of the print which meant less time spent on cleanup and more money saved on resin costs.
